Small collection of Zulu War items, consisting of an original spear, with long broken shaft, a possibly a battlefield pick up, A fine, two tone wooden Knobkerrie and a small size, well made shield, which looks to be the "Marriage" type, rather than the war shield.

M9228 - WW11 CRIBBAGE BOARD WITH PARA WINGS.   £65
Very well made cribbage board, made using a mahogany wood base, with nicely rounded edging, which has a heavy, well shaped brass plate attached to it with the cribbage holes and at one has been attached an original wartime, kings crown pair of para wings, as used on the para beret. Makes a great display item and is reputed to have come from Aldershot.

M9156 - WW11 AMERICAN FUNNEL WITH STRAINER.   £45
A olive green painted, brass fuel funnel with removable mesh strainer. Though it has no visible markings, the paint is american wartime olive drab, matching vehicles of the period and is large enough to be used on armoured vehicles, also being made of brass lessens the chance of sparks. Funnel was found in normandy.

M9230 - WW11 16TH LANCERS BADGE IN HORSESHOE.   £65
A very nice display item, being a post 1905, bi-metal cap badge of "16th The Queens Lancers" with kings crown, which has been fixed inside a copper horseshoe, badge retains its fixing slide to the rear and this has been used to attach a neat wire support, so the whole thing is displayed standing, excellent piece of trench art.

Unusual design and possibly WW1 ceramic stein type jug, with holes around the rim for some trick drinking reason and having a large full colour Bavarian crest to the front and a crossed swords motif each side with the date 1742, possibly in memory of a battle ? Has no damage and is very attractive, about 1 litre size.

M7063 - WILLIAM 1V SWORD CANDLE STICK.   £375
Interesting item, a William 1V gold plated officers sword with broken blade, that has been converted into a candle stick to hold 4 candles, the sword which still retains its leather scabbard over the broken, blued blade has had its hilt with royal cypher & pommel attached to a round hardwood base mount and the tip of the broken blade has attached holders for candles. There is a pistol or musket ball strike to the scabbard throat which is reputed to be the cause of the officer falling from his horse and breaking his sword, makes a very attractive display item and the candle holders can be easily removed so as to remove the scabbard and reveal the blade if wanted.

One of two wooden paddles I have, that were part of the stowed equipment on the VW Schwimmwagen, which had a single paddle clamped to the near side of the vehicle as an emergency aid if the engine stopped in the water, approx 5ft long, the wood is in good shape for its age and could still be used, nice original item.

The tankard pre dates 1901 when the queen died and is possibly as early as 1888, interesting early item and still useful.

M9104 - VICTORIAN CARVED WOOD BOX.   Sold
A well shaped and carved, hardwood box on lions feet, from the victorian period with good colour, the hinged lid has a very well carved in relief, of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, inside of the lid has a carved scenic view. Box looks to have held cigars or possibly cigarettes.

M8614 - TIGER TANK RELIC TURRET ELEVATION GEAR.   £205
A rare, relic item from the turret of a german Tiger 1 panzer, consists of a bevelled gear assembly in an armoured housing, which still turns and which would have formed part of the gun elevation or turret traverse manual system. The stub shaft from the base of the housing looks to be possibly the type that would take a operating hand wheel. Sadly, although the tank type is known, the original history of the item has been lost. It has been cleaned, the housing repainted.

M9094 - STALINGRAD RELIC MERCEDES RADIATOR CAP.   £95
A very interesting relic from the Stalingrad battlefield, a large radiator cap from a Mercedes truck or heavy personel carrier, still with most of its panzer grey paint intact and with a bullet hole to the side. The cap would have had been complete with the Mercedes logo badge on top but this has been broken off and lost, leaving just its stem. However, this has been mated with a modern item to complete its original look.

M7910 - SILVER PLATED BOAT COMPASS.   £125
A nice silver plated "tell tale" compass from the late 1800's, this is a fully gimballed and inverted compass, that would have been fixed, possibly over a bed in the captains cabin of a merchant ship, so that he could check directions at a quick glance, has a dry compass card and the whole assembly of compass and gimballed structure is all silver plated brass and is in full working order.

M5846 - SILVER BROOCH MINIATURE OF H.M.T. SOMERSETSHIRE.   £75
Excellent, small silver, pin back brooch with glass front, approx an inch wide and containing a highly detailed miniature of the H.M.T. The Somersetshire was launched in 1921 for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co but was converted in 1927 to a troopship for 1,300 mean, in 1939 she was again converted, this time to a HM Hospital Ship, she was torpedoed in the Med 1942 but made it to Alexandria, after the war she was a Migrant ship to australia before becoming a troopship again in 1953 but was finaly broken up in 1954.

M8653 - SAS OFFICERS NAMED UNIFORM WITH BERET.   £285
Excellent condition, modern SAS officers tropical tunic and biege beret with full insignia. The lightwieght tunic has a Hong Kong tailors label and another with the officers name details. Insignia is quite a mixture, the buttons being SA silver staybright, the shoulder rank and SAS titles are blackened finish, the SAS collar badges with winged dagger are bimetal and to the right sleeve is a padded cloth pair of SAS wings. To the left chest are two medal ribbons, one for the UN Cyprus Medal of the 60's, the other for the 1962 Campaign Service Medal, issued from 1962 to 2007. The biege beret is well formed and carries a sewn on, cloth SAS badge of the period. SAS items do not turn up very often, so a named tunic & beret with full insignia in such excellent condition is quite something.

M8972 - SAS BERET WITH BADGE.   £80
A large size original but quite modern SAS beret with stitched on cloth badge, has full maker details inside. In very good condition, apart from the light tan material having signs of moth surface grazing but no nips or holes.

A relic brass blow torch, salvaged from U-Boat U534, which was raised in 1993, after being sunk by aircraft at the end of the war, it was put on display at Birkhead, Liverpool for quite a few years, before being cut into four sections and moved to Woodside Ferry Terminal, where it now forms an attraction. The blowtorch is in pretty good shape being mostly brass in construction, though it has not been cleaned, with just the steel rear handle having suffered from corrosion. Interesting kreigsmarine item from a known U-Boat.

M8868 - REICHSBAHN RAILWAY LAMP.   £110
A small, approx 6 inch high, but very nice metal lamp with curved, clear glass lens, having bars to protect it and a fixing bracket to the rear, the top cover is embossed with eagle & swastika, with letters D.R. either side for the german railways or Reichsbahn. Has a candle in it at present, so assume this was what was used to light it.

M8730 - RAF TEAK PHOTO FRAME WITH SILVER INLAY.   £48
A fairly large, approx 11 inches tall, wooden photo frame (teak) with silver wire inlay decoration, of large RAF wings across the top, palm tree's either side and elephants across the bottom, has a hinged wood stand prop to the rear, very well made and has never had a photo installed.

M8255 - R.N. WHITEHEAD TORPEDO STEERING GYROSCOPE.   £245
A rare, early steering gyroscope for the Royal Navy, Whitehead torpedo. The Whitehead torpedo was first perfected in 1866 but it was the fitting of the Ludwig Obry steering gyroscope, which Whitehead bought the rights to, that made it accurate. This is the gyro for the Whitehead 18 inch torpedo introduced in 1895 and the low serial number of 538, indicates it might be from the first production run, it is also maker stamped R.G.F. for the Royal Gun Factory, which only made torpedo's between 1890 & 1911 for the early Dreadnought battelships, after which work transferred to Whiteheads at Weymouth. The gyroscope, which is of heavy bronze frame, with bronze flywheel in steel rings, is still in working order and display mounted on a machined alloy base, a great item of victorian engineering that lead the way to submarines becoming an effective weapon.

M9402 - QUEENS CROWN PARA WINGS IN SILVER.   £100
A pair of silver british parachute regiment wings for the para beret, these being early queens crown type of the 50's or 60's, with fixing lugs & pin. Silver is not hall marked, so the owner may have had them made while on service abroad but the quality is excellent.

M9284 - PRE WAR GERMAN HIKING CANE WITH BADGES   Sold
A very nicely made alpine walking cane, with a goats horn as a hand grip and its hoof as a socket joining it to the cane, it is decorated with nine badges for various nazi events of the 30's, mostly 1933, including for the WW1 veterans Stalhelm shooting event, hunting, flying, even one with an airship on, very interesting and historic item.

M9237 - POSTWAR SAS OFFICERS BERET WITH BADGE.   Sold
Nice postwar, officers biege SAS beret with high quality officers badge, interior of beret lined in oilskin like that found in officers peaked caps and may well be private purchase, material of beret has some light moth grazing but then all these berets seem to have that, good item.

M9150 - POSTWAR BRITISH PARA SMOCK.   £40

An original but post war, biege beret of the SAS, with its stitched badge still in place, possibly dates to the 70's, medium size, good condition with a little moth grazing to the top surface, which they all seem to suffer from.

M8369 - PLATED CIG CASE WITH MAP AND RAF BADGE.   £35

An original postwar, plywood board, approx 19 inches by 16 inches, which has been painted green, with the SAS badge hand painted in gold & silver on a black background to the top, under which in grey paint is "3rd SAS HQ" again handpainted, though the A & Q are in stencil form. There is a hole in each corner for fixing nails or screws. Impossible to date exactly but think its pre 70's vintage, very attractive display item.

M8370 - OLD COMTEMPTABLE CARVED WALKING STICK.   £140
A walking stick, which has for its top section a carved wood bust of a british soldier of the BEF at the start of the first war, topped off with his cap, on the top of which is carved in a circle "Old Comtemptable" with 1914 in the middle, very unusual item, not sure from what period it dates but its attractive and well made.

M8854 - OIL PAINTING OF GERMAN ARMY NCO.   £350
Oil painting in original frame by artist F.Milberg and dated 1944, subject is a german infantry NCO, wearing his M43 uniform tunic and bear headed, painting has very good detail and shows him with his tunic with its NCO silver braid to the collar and shoulder boards, which are marked to the 9th Infantry Regt and have braid over straps, showing him to be an officer candidate at the time of the painting, has good detail to the breast eagle, also shows the ribbon for the Iron Cross 2nd class to the button hole, a medal ribbon to left chest and the lanyard to his NCO whistle contained in his pocket. Its an excellent lifelike painting of a moment in time.

Interesting belt buckle of the type used on dress belts, has central buckle of heavily embossed design brass with separate centre disc with naval fouled anchor, to one side is a hinged brass section, also embossed and on the other side a matching piece that hooks to the buckle, these pieces would be attached to the belt. M9231 - MINITURE BRASS GERMAN PICKLHAUBE.   £65
A all brass construction miniture german picklehaube, complete with spike, badge to the front and a chain link chinstrap, scale I think is just under 1/3 full size and it has been finished with two simulated bullet holes. No idea of its period but has some age and is very well made.

M8673 - MG13 BARREL LAMP STAND.   £280
Unusual, small standard lamp, made using the barrel cooling sleeve from a german MG13 machine gun on a wood base. The cooling sleeve is as it was on the weapon with sight fittings etc and the channel inserted to take the cable gives the impression of a barrel inside. Bolb holder is fitted but requires wiring. I do have another example and they look great with a helmet shell as a shade, same price for each one.

M7955 - MAYBACH ENGINE ROCKER FROM TIGER 1.   £145
A single engine valve, rocker assembly, from the Maybach V12 engine of a german Panzer , the Tiger 1, which with its heavy armour and high power 88mm gun, was one of the best heavy tanks of the war. M8178 - LARGE MODEL OF R34 AIRSHIP ON REVOLVING STAND.   £405
A large, approx 6ft long model of a british airship, has a metal frame construction with doped canvas covering, almost like the real thing and is fitted with a swivel mounting which can be bolted to a outside stand, allowing it to turn into the wind (I tried it out) the airship is finished in silver with raf colours to the tail fins and raf roundels each side, along with R34. Having checked photo's of the actual R34, the model not an exact copy and looks more like the R100 but a large amount of work has gone into its build and is a one-off item, maybe intended as a outdoor marker but never used as such, its in very good shape with just a couple of small patch repairs and to me looks to be pretty old, possibly even pre-war in age.

M9133 - ITALIAN WAFFEN SS VOLUNTEER SLEEVE EAGLE.   £95
A cloth sleeve patch, hand stitched in red on white of an eagle holding the italian facist symbol in its talons. This was worn by italian volunteers in the Waffen SS. I have seen plenty of fakes of these badges but all seem to be machine stitched, this is hand stitched and shows some age but I cannot be 100% sure of it, so price reflects this.

The horn has a brass sleeve which has been engraved with "Horn from german mine. BELHELVIE.N.B. 17-9-18" there is a Belhelvie in Aberdeenshire near the coast, so possible a mine washed up in the area. The Hertz mine horn was a german invention dating back to 1868 and was copied by the british after a mine was captured. The metal horn in use, contains a glass tube containing electrolyte, held between a carbon plate and a zinc plate, when the horn is struck breaking the glass, the solution forms a simple battery with the plates and fires the electric detonator, exploding the mine. Rare to find a display with an intact, fragile glass tube.

M8706 - GERMAN WOODEN TRANSIT CASE.   £45
A fairly small 10inch x 6inch, wooden transit box, stencilled to the lid "Kampfstoffproben" which roughly translates to "War materials samples" so not entirely sure what that would be, possibly chemical warfare test equipment ?
