B.E.F. dated 4th October 1918 and signed by a Major, it congratulates her on her son Pte. J.C. Russell being awarded the MM and being a credit to the Battalion, signed by hand. The report states that during an action at Vaux Vraucourt he acted as section gunner with great courage and on the evening of the 25th Aug, during an enemy counter attack he repeatedly carried messages under fire to maintain communications during a critical period, this is all headed "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty". A very large and heavy (approx 4kg) photo album, leather bound with "Devonshire Royal Engineers" embossed in gilt to the front, the heavy, gitl edged pages contain many large plate photo's and also smaller ones, taken over a period from 1909 to 1915 and show all aspects of service life in the R.E. each one having beautiful hand written notes, name of the possible owner, a Capt. He had also commanded a MG company in the first war. The album comes with an original portrait photo of him as a general, at his desk, wearing his decorations & Knights Cross, the album consists of typed pages, approx 65, which have added, hand coloured drawings to illustrate events, then there are a further 15 original photo's placed through out, of bunkers, tanks, places and graves, all contained in a well produced cover. Interesting final item is a newspaper page, giving details of the american soldier who took the album, along with other booty from the generals house in germany, before blowing it up, quite a unique item.

A very good quality photoalbum, with 49 photo's of a Waffen SS Girbergsjager unit, showing scenes of the troops in normal field grey uniform, tropical uniform and wearing the distinctive SS camo smocks & helmet covers, vehicles are also shown in the photo's, good thing about this album is that all photo's are of the men and not the usual soldiers tourist photo's, also photo's of SS mountain troops are pretty rare.

A very good condition and unused 1940 calender, with full clour print of RAF fighters over the sea, entitled "Guarding our native shores" the calender itself with its monthly tear off sheets is all intact and starts with a christmas message for 1939. M8846 - LUFTWAFFE GENERALS PAPERS.   £75
Some original file papers giving the service career of a luftwaffe Generalmajor. Bernard Kuhl, which show him to have been a veteran of the first war in the infantry and airforce, remaining in service between the wars and acting as a luftwaffe inspector upto 1940, his career after 1940 is not recorded as the papers only go up to that year. Though a quick search does show he carried on in luftwaffe training affairs until 1943, when he retired, only to be taken by the russians in may 1945 until he died in captivity in february 1946, appears to be plenty of research information regards this officer online.

The folder also has a section with inbuilt clip boards & pencil holders etc. Though the folder has suffered some damage and has not been cared for, it and its maps are still in decent condition and I think could do with careful research as it looks to be a unique item from the early war days of the London defences during the threat of invasion.

M8251 - GRAF SPEE 1939 PHOTO COLLECTION.   £165
A collection of 15 original photo's, covering the demise of the german battleship "Graf Spee" taken after the Battle of River Plate in 1939, first showing battle damage and flag draped coffins of her dead, also her captain, then her end, when she was scuttled on 17th Dec 1939. There are also photo's of the british cruisers Achilles & Exeter taken after the action and it all appears to have been put together by a member of Achilles crew, with a map of her atlantic patrol, interesting.

M8573 - GERMAN WW11 MILITARY PHOTO ALBUM.   £125
A good, large size photo album, with iron cross ribbon across the corner of the cover, which usually indicates someone lost in the war. M8572 - GERMAN WW11 INFANTRY OFFICERS PHOTO ALBUM.   £125
A fairly small sized, private purchase, photo album of approx 60 photo's, that appears to put together by a german infantry officer of junior rank and shows pre-war and early war photo's of his service time and of other fellow officers, with quite a few good studio portraits showing unfirom details, plus in the rear some extra items of paperwork.

M8908 - GERMAN INFANTRY SOLDBUCH, WEHRPAS, PHOTOS.   £200
A really good grouping of matching Soldbuch & wehrpas to one man, with sleeve for Wehrpas, a group of 7 photo's and a photo postcard. The owner was Karl Diesterle who was 39 when he enlisted and then served until 1945. His record show him as having been awarded the War Merit Cross with swords, the East Front Medal and the Wound Badge in black. He was an infantry grenadier and got through 4 different Mauser K98 rifles and two bayonets, he first served as part of the 205th Infantry Div in france in 1941, before being moved to russia in january 1942, possibly to make up for the winter losses there, he served there until may 1943 when he was moved to Norway as part of the 702nd Infantry Div, which was lucky for him, as he spent the rest of the war there, until captured by the british in 1945. The photo's show scenes of his time in france, russia and Norway, including a small portrait photo of him in 1944 as a senior private. All in pretty good order and the two books have not had the swastika's de-nazified, so are in original state and stuffed full of information and added paper notes stuck in and stamped, appear all his awards were won in russia, during which at some point he was wounded, a lot more research could be done.
